The visitor, Papagayo & good food!

We had a very welcome visitor this last week….Christien surprised us and popped out for a long weekend, to cheer his mum up. We picked him up from the airport and decided to go for dinner in Aricife, which is both where the airport lies and the capital. We found a nice little Tapas barContinue reading “The visitor, Papagayo & good food!”

The cactus garden and wine region

The weathers been a bit hit and miss this last week, but we’ve made the most of it. Swimming at our sheltered spot in Costa Teguise. Walking the interesting Famara beach, with its dark mountain backdrop. Continuing on the Manrique theme, we took a trip to see his final (he died in 1992) project; “ElContinue reading “The cactus garden and wine region”

The Timanfaya national park and Cesar Manrique

Driving around Lanzarote it’s easy to imagine how the island nearly fell into the hands of greedy property developers, hell bent on throwing up as many concrete apartment buildings as they could, all of which would have obscured the landscape and dreamy panoramas out across the Atlantic. There are still some sizeable apartment buildings atContinue reading “The Timanfaya national park and Cesar Manrique”

Bye bye Canaries, back to the UK for a few weeks.

We’ve pretty much used up our 90 day European allowance, so as planned we headed back to the UK to look in on family and friends, before moving on again. Our final week was a mixed bag weather wise, we had some heavy rain whilst the higher levels got snow! And the temperature gauge hadContinue reading “Bye bye Canaries, back to the UK for a few weeks.”

Calle Esquivel – Puerto de la Cruz

This was our last week at “Calle de Fragata 4” and on reflection, it has been an enoyable stay, with great walks, a very welcoming tennis club and the interesting Playa de Jardin to march along every morning at dawn. We’ve been deliberating for the past few weeks on where to go to next andContinue reading “Calle Esquivel – Puerto de la Cruz”

Stargazing & the Orchid Gardens

We’ve had the car since we arrived on the island and it’s been handy to have to get around, but we’d agreed that Tuesday was the day to return it. We could have extended it but the main reason we didn’t, was that we’d become a little lazy, choosing to drive somewhere when we couldContinue reading “Stargazing & the Orchid Gardens”

Feliz Año Nuevo – Mt Teide, walking & whale watching

We’ve had a great a week, bathed in warm sunshine. It’s been perfectly balanced between relaxation and physical activity. First thing every other day we’ve played an hour and a half of tennis. The courts are situated on a cliff edge, which makes it difficult to concentrate, as the view out across the ocean isContinue reading “Feliz Año Nuevo – Mt Teide, walking & whale watching”
